Major train disruptions after power line failure on Vestfold line
Train services between Larvik and Sandefjord were suspended Monday morning due to a damaged overhead power line, infrastructure manager Bane Nor reported.
The issue was first detected at 5:15 AM when an early morning train from Skien to Oslo encountered the fault near the closed Lauve station in Larvik municipality, according to Vy, Norway’s state-owned rail operator. Around 10–20 passengers remained stranded on board while emergency crews secured the area.
“Fire services are on site ensuring no live current remains on the ground so passengers can disembark safely,” Åge-Christoffer Lundeby, Vy’s communications director, told public broadcaster NRK. He added that replacement bus services were being arranged but warned of significant delays. “Travelers should expect long waits—this will take considerable time to resolve.”
Vy’s website confirmed the Larvik–Sandefjord stretch was closed to rail traffic, citing the overhead line failure as the cause. Bane Nor stated it was assessing the situation but noted repairs would be “time-consuming,” with the next update expected at 10 AM.
