Women still prepare most evening meals in Danish households without children
A new study reveals that women remain primarily responsible for cooking dinner in most Danish homes without children, despite years of progress toward gender equality in workplaces and leadership roles.
The latest survey on Danish eating habits, conducted by Madkulturen—an organisation under the Ministry of Food—found that in households without children, women typically take the lead in preparing evening meals. One in three women living with others reported never receiving help in the kitchen.
The findings highlight a persistent gender imbalance in domestic responsibilities, even as Denmark has pushed for equal representation in professional and corporate settings.
