Emergency services respond to residential fire in Oslo
Emergency crews were called to a fire in an Oslo apartment building on Sunday afternoon, Norwegian media Dagbladet reports. The blaze has since been extinguished, though smoke remains in the stairwell and adjacent areas.
The fire broke out in the building’s stairwell but did not spread to any apartments, according to authorities. Emergency services continue to assess the scene, with heavy smoke reported in the stairwell and nearby spaces.
“We are conducting life-saving operations,” Rune Hekkelstrand, the police operation leader, told VG. He clarified that this involves firefighting efforts, smoke clearance, and evaluating evacuations. No injuries have been confirmed, though authorities have not ruled out the possibility of smoke inhalation among residents.
Hekkelstrand later updated that at least one apartment was affected, with significant smoke in the stairwell. A police helicopter assisted in assessing the situation from above. Several residents self-evacuated, while others were unable to leave due to smoke.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
