Faroese radio host declares love for partner live on air with chess-themed proposal
A Faroese radio host surprised listeners this week by declaring love for her partner in a live on-air chess-themed proposal, reports Kringvarp Føroya.
Armgarð Arge, a presenter on the national broadcaster’s morning show, ended the weekly chess segment with the Faroese phrase “Eg elski teg aftur um mánan”—a playful twist on the traditional “I love you,” referencing the chess term en passant (“in passing”).
The unexpected declaration aired Saturday during the program’s regular chess feature, leaving co-host Ingi Rasmussen to react in the moment. A recording of the segment is available on KVF’s website.
Translation: “I love you en passant” (using the chess move’s Faroese name, “aftur um mánan”).
