Mechanical issue delays ferry service in Tórshavn, Faroe Islands
A significant mechanical issue has been identified with the starboard side of Smyrill’s propeller shaft, prompting immediate repairs, according to Johan Petur Abrahamsen, the interim operations manager at the national ferry company, Strandfaraskip.
The problem was confirmed last night, and due to its seriousness, it could potentially cause extensive damage if not addressed swiftly. As a result, the ferry schedule will be impacted on Thursday afternoon and Friday morning.
Repairs are set to begin on Thursday evening. Consequently, the ferry departures from Tórshavn at 21:15 on Thursday and from Krambatanga at 07:00 on Friday morning will be canceled.
Passengers who have booked tickets for these affected trips must either change their reservations or secure new tickets for alternative sailings. If all goes as planned, the first trip following the repairs will resume on Friday at 13:00 from Tórshavn, according to Abrahamsen.
