Hundreds of trucks protest high fuel prices in slow-moving convoy toward Oslo
Hundreds of trucks and vehicles are driving in a slow-moving convoy from southern Norway toward Oslo on Friday to protest high fuel prices and unfulfilled tax cuts, Dagbladet reports.
The demonstration, dubbed “Dieselbrølet” (Diesel Roar), began early Friday with convoys departing from Kløfta in Romerike and Bamble in Telemark. Organizers had warned of potential traffic chaos, and video footage obtained by Dagbladet shows dozens of trucks traveling together near Stokke in Vestfold.
Police in the Øst district confirmed they are monitoring the situation and have allocated resources for the protest. “It is challenging when it disrupts traffic, and we continuously assess the situation,” an operations leader told the newspaper. While authorities emphasized respect for freedom of expression, they cautioned that fines could be issued if traffic is obstructed and urged protesters to allow emergency vehicles to pass.
Traffic operators reported that the convoy was moving at normal speeds on four-lane sections but caused some congestion near Rugtvedt, where the road narrows. By 9:15 AM, the trucks had passed Foksund in Larvik municipality, with no major traffic disruptions reported so far.
