A 33-year-old woman has been sentenced in absentia to a 40-day suspended prison term by the Faroese Court for money laundering, public broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya reports.

The woman, who is not a Faroese citizen and resides in Denmark, failed to appear in court without lawful excuse. She was detained at the Faroe Islands airport in November last year in possession of 71,000 Danish kroner in various currencies. Police allege the funds stem from illegal activity, potentially drug sales.

The court ruled the woman forfeit the 71,000 kroner. She denies the charges.
