Faroese centre-right parties form coalition ahead of 2026 election
The People’s Party, Union Party, and Social Democratic Party in the Faroe Islands have entered into a coalition agreement, marking a right-leaning political shift, Kringvarp Føroya reports.
The three parties—Fólkaflokkurin, Sambandsflokkurin, and Javnaðarflokkurin—have signed a formal cooperation deal, positioning themselves as a unified bloc for the upcoming 2026 parliamentary election.
Leaders from the parties, including Beinir Johannesen, Bárður á Steig Nielsen, and Aksel V. Johannesen, were present at the signing. The agreement outlines joint policy priorities, though specific details have not yet been disclosed.
Opposition figures, such as Sirið Stenberg and Ruth Vang, were also photographed at the event, indicating media coverage of the political realignment.
The coalition signals a potential shift in Faroese governance, with the parties framing their alliance as a “right, right, left” balance—referencing their ideological positioning.
