Doctor released from custody in Kuopio attempted murder case but remains under suspicion
A specialist doctor suspected of attempted murder in Kuopio has been released from pre-trial detention but remains under investigation, Finnish public broadcaster Yle reports. The North Savo District Court has imposed a monitored restraining order on the suspect at the request of police.
The over-50-year-old man, who also faces charges of assault, was released from custody approximately two weeks ago. Prosecutor Tiina Borg confirmed to Yle via email that the investigation into the attempted murder is ongoing.
The court granted an extended restraining order, which will be enforced through technical monitoring. Authorities justified the electronic surveillance as necessary to prevent a risk of serious crime against life, health, or liberty. The restraining order application and related evidence have been sealed for two years due to investigative reasons.
The suspect, a specialist physician, was initially detained in February on suspicion of attempted murder. Prosecutor Borg declined to comment on the identity of the alleged victim.
