Helsinki residents enjoy spring sunshine despite chilly winds
Sunny weather drew people outdoors in Helsinki on Wednesday, though brisk winds kept temperatures feeling cool, reports Finnish public broadcaster Yle.
At the city’s Vanhankaupunginlahti bay, food and coffee stalls opened their shutters as locals—including dog walkers, joggers, and anglers—took advantage of the sunshine. While the sun has shone brightly in recent days, the wind has made the air feel crisp, forcing careful consideration of clothing choices.
Fifteen-year-old Julle the dog wore a woollen sweater for warmth, while Leevi Kalliomaa opted for shorts during his Wednesday run. Angler Anna Winter, fishing by the Vanhankaupunginkoski rapids, layered up against the wind with a fleece, hoodie, two pairs of trousers, gloves, and a hood.
Raija Niemelä, out for a walk, said the fresh air was worth braving the cold. “With weather like this, you just have to be outside,” she told Yle.
The weekend forecast promises similar sunshine but with calmer winds and rising temperatures. Friday will see highs near 10°C in many areas, while Saturday brings widespread double-digit warmth. By Sunday, some regions may reach 15°C.
