Setrið urged to provide menstrual products for students in the Faroe Islands
The Student Council and the Student Union have urged Setrið to provide menstrual products in its restrooms for students. This initiative could significantly impact many students, according to Harriet Dam, chairperson of the Student Council.
“If you happen to not have a pad with you for any reason, it places you in a difficult situation,” she stated.
Setrið has looked into the possibility of ensuring that menstrual products are available in the restrooms. However, the Ministry of Children and Education has pointed out that student grants already cover these products.
Student organizations note that many universities in other Nordic countries and the UK have menstrual products available in their facilities, and they don’t understand why this shouldn’t be possible in the Faroe Islands as well.
Harriet Dam believes that this situation creates an unfair distinction among students, especially since only women need these menstrual products. “More than half of those studying at Setrið require access to menstrual products.”
