A new coalition agreement between the Faroese People’s Party, Union Party, and Social Democratic Party marks the end of bloc-based politics in the Faroe Islands, incoming Prime Minister Beinir Johannesen announced Thursday.

The three-party coalition, dubbed the “ABC alliance,” unveiled their joint policy platform titled Responsibility, Stability, and Broader Perspectives at a press conference. Johannesen stated that the agreement represents a shift away from traditional political divisions, emphasizing reform and collaboration.

Bárður á Steig Nielsen, leader of the Union Party, pledged direct support for agriculture, while Social Democratic leader Aksel V. Johannesen promised rent subsidies and a new property tax on owners of three or more homes starting in 2029.

The coalition’s policy document outlines priorities including economic stability, housing measures, and tax adjustments. Further details of the agreement were not immediately disclosed.
