Finland is applying for €35 million in additional EU funding to strengthen its drone surveillance and countermeasures, the Finnish government announced on Thursday.

The Economic Policy Council approved the funding request, which would cover 90% of the costs for new systems to be acquired primarily between 2027 and 2029. The Border Guard would procure the equipment to enhance monitoring along Finland’s eastern border and the Gulf of Finland, according to the Ministry of the Interior.

The funding would come from the EU’s Border Management and Visa Policy Instrument (BMVI).
