The Faroese Coast Guard’s newly acquired patrol vessel Fagraberg departed on its first operational voyage under the Faroese flag early Thursday morning, national broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya reports.

The ship left Fuglafjørður at 12:30 AM, heading south. It arrived in the Faroe Islands on March 31 after being purchased from Shetland for 250 million Danish kroner. Built in 2018, the vessel replaces the older Fagraberg, which has been listed for sale and docked in Søldarfjørður since February 19.

The patrol comes as black scabbardfish quotas in the grey zone between Faroese and Scottish waters have begun. Icelandic vessels are expected to fish intensively in the area before the Faroe-Iceland fishing agreement expires on August 1.
