Faroe Islands fuel prices expected to drop following US-Iran ceasefire
A temporary ceasefire between the US and Iran has triggered a decline in global oil prices, with fuel companies in the Faroe Islands confirming that local prices will also fall.
According to a report by Faroese national broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya, the price of oil dropped to around $93 per barrel shortly after US President Donald Trump announced a 14-day truce with Iran on Tuesday. Trump stated that the agreement would pause hostilities if Iran reopens the Strait of Hormuz, a critical shipping route for global oil transport.
Faroese fuel suppliers Effo and Magn have indicated that the reduction in international oil prices will be reflected in local fuel costs. Thomsen, a company specialising in home heating oil, has maintained relatively low prices in recent months but does not anticipate a significant immediate drop, according to managing director Tórhallur Thomsen.
