Man charged with assault in Argir as pretrial detention extended by Faroese court
A man charged with the assault of a woman on Sandá Street in Argir had his pretrial detention extended by four weeks in the Faroese court yesterday, as requested by the police.
The alleged incident occurred on the evening of April 28, when a woman was attacked near the football field in Argir. Shortly after the assault, a man was apprehended in a cemetery on Velbastaðvegin.
The man, who is accused of the assault, denies the charges. He has been in custody since his arrest on April 28, and his detention was initially extended on June 25.
He consented to the extension, which meant he would not need to appear in court at that time. However, during a court hearing yesterday, he did not accept the decision to extend his pretrial detention.
He has since appealed the ruling to the Eastern Court of Appeals, which has not yet responded to the appeal.
