One dead in head-on collision on highway in Pyhäntä

A fatal traffic accident occurred on Tuesday afternoon on Highway 28 in Pyhäntä, northern Finland, when a passenger car and a semi-trailer truck collided, reports Finnish public broadcaster Yle.

The driver of the passenger car died in the crash, which authorities described as a partial head-on collision. The car had no passengers, and the truck driver escaped without physical injuries.

Emergency services received reports of the accident shortly before 2 p.m. local time, prompting the dispatch of five rescue units to the scene. According to Oulu police, the truck overturned onto its side following the collision. The truck was carrying electrical equipment as cargo.

The accident took place on the stretch of Highway 28 between Kontiolampi and the municipal border of Kajaani–Pyhäntä.
