Two young men suspected of planning attack on Tampere vocational school
Finnish police have arrested two young men on suspicion of planning a violent attack against a campus of Tampere Regional Vocational College Tredu, public broadcaster Yle reports.
The suspects, aged 16 and 18, were remanded in custody earlier this month by district courts in Pirkanmaa and Varsinais-Suomi on probable cause for preparation of a serious offence against life or health. The 18-year-old is a student at the targeted Santalahdentie campus, while the 16-year-old is not enrolled there.
The older suspect was detained on 28 March, with the alleged preparation period spanning 24–25 March 2026. The younger suspect was remanded on 2 April, with his alleged planning period dated from 1 November 2025 to 25 March 2026. Neither has prior convictions in Pirkanmaa District Court records from the past decade.
Under Finnish law, preparation of a serious violent offence—such as acquiring weapons for murder, manslaughter, or aggravated assault—can carry a maximum four-year prison sentence. Police have stated that studying at the school remains safe.
