Several gull chicks shot in Orkanger, Norway, prompting police investigation
Several gull chicks have been shot in the center of Orkanger in Orkland, with one chick reportedly found decapitated, according to the Trøndelag police. Gulls are completely protected in Norway.
Viola Elvrum, the operations leader, noted that just days prior, ten gull chicks had also been discovered shot in the area. “This is clearly a recurring problem here,” Elvrum remarked.
Regarding the decapitated chick, Elvrum stated that it may have been beheaded after being shot, leaving uncertain whether an animal or a human was responsible for the gruesome act. The police are urging anyone with information about the incidents to come forward.
“We must treat animals in a humane manner. Given that these incidents have occurred multiple times, we take this very seriously,” Elvrum emphasized.
