Man found dead after search operation in Øygarden
A man in his 70s has been found dead in Øygarden near Bergen following an extensive search operation, Norwegian police confirmed on Monday.
According to a report by Dagbladet, authorities launched a large-scale search on Friday morning after the man was reported missing from a cabin in the area. He had been on a cabin trip with a woman when his absence was noticed at 6:30 AM.
The operation involved police patrols with search dogs, firefighters using drones, divers, a rescue boat, and around 20 volunteers from the Red Cross, Norwegian Rescue Dogs, and Norwegian People’s Aid. Authorities urged local residents to check their properties in case the missing man had sought shelter there.
At 1:29 PM, a body was discovered near the shoreline close to the cabin. Police confirmed it was the missing man, and next of kin have been notified. The search has been called off, and investigators are now conducting examinations at the scene.
