Man in his 30s charged after suspicious death in Trondheim
A man in his 30s has been formally charged in connection with a suspicious death in Trondheim, central Norway, following an incident on Good Friday, Dagbladet reports.
Trøndelag police district requested a four-week pre-trial detention for the suspect on Monday, charging him with “leaving another person in a helpless state” and unlawful deprivation of liberty, or complicity in the acts. Prosecutor Monica Hanø stated that authorities are seeking detention with restrictions on mail and visitation rights, as well as two weeks of isolation, citing risks of evidence tampering.
The victim, also a man in his 30s, was found dead indoors at a residential address early Friday morning. Emergency services alerted police to the death, prompting an investigation due to the circumstances surrounding the case.
The suspect’s defence attorney, Knut-Erik Storlykken Søvik, told Nettavisen that his client denies criminal responsibility and has requested release. “He is seeking to be set free,” Søvik said.
Police have ordered an autopsy and plan further investigative steps, including reviewing seized evidence, video footage, and digital traces. Authorities emphasised that the probe remains in its early stages, with multiple hypotheses under consideration—including the possibility that no crime occurred.
“Since this is a very early phase of the investigation and the autopsy has not yet been completed, we will not disclose further details at this time,” Hanø said in a statement.
