Finland revokes protection status of 14 people over national security concerns since 2023
Finland has withdrawn protection status from 14 individuals since the start of last year due to national security threats, according to a report by commercial broadcaster MTV Uutiset.
The Finnish Immigration Service confirmed to MTV that all those who lost their status in 2023 and 2024 were citizens of Iraq or Russia. Nine held refugee status, while five had subsidiary protection. An additional 15 cases—involving nationals from Iraq, Russia, and three other unnamed countries—are currently under review.
The legal basis for revoking protection status on security grounds was introduced through legislative changes at the beginning of 2023.
