A multi-vehicle collision on the E16 highway near Hønefoss has caused 50-minute delays toward Oslo, Norwegian news outlet Dagbladet reports.
Emergency services responded to the crash involving at least five vehicles on Sunday afternoon near Storelva. Police confirmed the road was closed in both directions as of 16:50, according to Marius Daffinrud Fosvold, operations manager for the Southeast Police District.
A Dagbladet reporter on a bus caught in the traffic described seeing at least four damaged vehicles, with more likely affected due to the steady flow of traffic. “People are turning around in the queue,” the reporter noted.
Traffic operator Stine Hansen of the Southern Road Traffic Centre stated that delays had already reached 25 minutes before the collision due to post-Easter holiday travel. By 17:15, delays toward Oslo had doubled to 50 minutes. The road partially reopened by 17:30, but congestion persisted.
Authorities have not yet provided an estimate for when normal traffic conditions will resume.
