Major search operation underway for missing family after cabin trip
A large-scale search is ongoing in southwestern Norway after a family of four failed to return from a cabin trip in Hjelmeland, Rogaland, Dagbladet reports.
The family—two adults and two children—were reported missing after they did not return to their parked vehicle on Fundingslandsvegen as planned. Relatives raised the alarm Friday morning when contact was lost; the family had last confirmed they were heading back to the car.
Police launched the search at 10:20 PM in coordination with Norway’s Joint Rescue Coordination Centre. “They are experienced hikers and familiar with the area,” operations leader Olaug Bjørnsen of the Southwestern Police District told the newspaper.
Light snow and temperatures between 2–3°C were reported in the search zone Friday evening. Resources deployed include police patrols, search dogs, drones, the Sar Queen rescue helicopter, and air ambulance teams.
The operation remains active, with updates expected as the search continues.
