Helsinki to host 30th anniversary performance of Via Crucis passion play

The large-scale Easter passion play Via Crucis will be performed at Helsinki’s Senate Square on Friday evening, marking the 30th anniversary of the annual open-air production, reports Finnish public broadcaster Yle.

The performance, directed by Markku Arokanto, begins at 9 p.m. and is free for all attendees. Actor Anssi Niemi will portray Jesus, supported by a cast including both professional performers and returning actors from previous years.

Organised by the ecumenical association Via Crucis – Ristin Tien Tuki in collaboration with Helsinki Cathedral Parish, the event has drawn thousands of spectators annually. The production team includes theatre and music professionals alongside amateur actors and parish members.
