Faroese fishing industry support schemes to be preserved
The Faroese fishing industry’s support programme and its fast-track initiative will continue, according to a decision by the fishing buyers’ association ALS, Kringvarp Føroya reports.
The association, which represents 14 member companies, stated that both schemes are essential for securing labour in the sector. Currently, 949 people are enrolled in the support programme, with 365 of them—split evenly between men and women—receiving financial assistance today.
Without these measures, the Faroese Fishing Buyers’ Association warned, it would be impossible to recruit workers for the fishing industry. The group emphasised that both the main support scheme and the fast-track programme must not only continue but be strengthened.
