Denmark’s power grid faces severe strain as demand outpaces capacity
Denmark’s electrical grid is under unprecedented pressure, with businesses transitioning from gas and oil unable to guarantee power supply, national broadcaster DR reports.
The surge in demand for electricity—at least eight times higher than Denmark’s peak daily consumption—has forced companies into multi-year waiting lists for grid connections. The bottleneck stems from insufficient capacity in the national power network, leaving industries in limbo as they seek to decarbonise operations.
Technical University of Denmark (DTU) professor Marie Münster explains the underlying causes in a video analysis linked to the report.
