Faroese trawler freed after running aground in Miðvágur
The Faroese trawler Norðfinnur was freed late Thursday after being stuck for nearly a day on a sandy seabed inside the breakwater at Miðvágur harbour, local broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya reports.
Divers will now inspect the vessel’s hull for potential damage before it can return to fishing operations. Earlier attempts to refloat the trawler on Thursday morning failed, leaving it moored to the quay with ropes while crews waited for high tide.
The Norðfinnur is owned by the Vesturbúgvin fishing company based in Vestmanna. Initial assessments suggest the ship has not sustained serious damage.
