Mixed Easter weather forecast for Sweden with regional variations
Sweden’s Easter weekend will bring alternating weather conditions, with southern and northern regions taking turns for clearer skies, according to national broadcaster SVT.
Travellers hitting the roads on Maundy Thursday should prepare for changeable weather, particularly from Dalarna northward, where icy conditions and mixed rain and snow are expected. By Thursday evening, precipitation will shift to snow, creating hazardous driving conditions.
“Those travelling late should be ready to encounter snow-covered areas,” said Jannicke Geitskaret, meteorologist at SVT. “Winter tyres are recommended for anyone heading north.”
The start of the long weekend will mark a setback from the milder temperatures much of Sweden experienced in recent days. Good Friday in southern Sweden is forecast to be cloudy with highs of just 6–7°C, while northern Sweden will see similar temperatures but with better chances of sunshine.
Storm winds in the south, clearer skies in the north
A low-pressure system moving in on Holy Saturday will bring storm-force winds to southern Sweden by Easter Sunday. Meanwhile, northern Sweden—particularly the mountain regions—will enjoy calmer weather, offering some of the weekend’s finest conditions.
On Easter Monday, northern areas may see snow showers, while southern Sweden could experience clearer skies with temperatures climbing to 10–12°C.
