Porvoo school stabbings investigated as two counts of aggravated assault

A fifth-grade pupil is suspected of stabbing an adult and another student with a knife at a school in Porvoo, eastern Uusimaa, on Tuesday, police have confirmed.

The incident, which took place inside a classroom at Huhtinen School, is being investigated as two counts of aggravated assault, according to a statement by the Itä-Uusimaa Police Department. Authorities received an emergency call shortly after 10:00 AM reporting that a student had injured an adult and another pupil with an edged weapon.

Police confirmed the suspect, a fifth-grade boy, had brought a knife to school and used it to inflict superficial wounds on both victims. The attack was contained within the classroom, posing no threat to other areas of the school. Officers detained the boy at the scene.

Investigators stated they have a clear understanding of the events based on initial interrogations. No further details will be released, as the case involves minors.
