Police investigate data protection breach in Central Finland after employee allegedly accessed patient records

Finnish police are investigating a suspected data protection violation at the Central Finland wellbeing services county after an employee allegedly accessed around 100 patient records without authorisation, public broadcaster Yle reports.

The breach is believed to have occurred between July 2023 and June 2025, according to authorities. Investigators state there is currently no evidence that the accessed data was misused or shared with third parties.

The Central Finland wellbeing services county had already notified affected individuals by letter earlier this year. Police sent additional notifications to those impacted in March.

The case remains under active investigation.
