Finland’s second-generation immigrant population exceeds 100,000 for the first time
Finland’s second-generation immigrant population surpassed 100,000 people last year, according to new figures from national broadcaster Yle, citing Statistics Finland.
The country’s total foreign-background population reached approximately 661,000 by the end of 2023, with around 102,000 of those individuals born in Finland to immigrant parents. This marks a doubling of the second-generation population in just 11 years.
Ukrainians became the largest group of foreign citizens in Finland over the past year, the data shows.
Meanwhile, Finland’s overall population growth slowed significantly in 2023, increasing by just under 17,000 people—nearly half the growth recorded in the previous year. The total population now stands at roughly 5.65 million.
