Some Telia customers using Google Pixel 9 and Pixel 10 phones are facing delays of up to 30 seconds when calling emergency services, the company has confirmed.

The issue was first reported by a tipster to Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet, who described attempting to call the emergency medical communication centre (AMK) on Monday without success. “Nothing happened when I called, and I didn’t hear a single sound,” the anonymous Telia customer said. “I started wondering if I had no signal.”

On Tuesday, the customer received a text message from Telia stating: “Important information about emergency calls for your phone. Some Pixel 9 and Pixel 10 users may experience delays of up to 30 seconds before emergency calls connect. We take this seriously and are working closely with Google to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.”

Telia’s head of communications, Ellen C. Scheen, confirmed to Dagbladet that the company had sent SMS alerts to all affected customers. “This is not linked to who has tried calling AMK but applies to all Pixel 9 and 10 users,” she said. Scheen added that direct notification was deemed the most effective way to inform potentially impacted users, rather than posting updates on Telia’s website.

The company is collaborating with Google to address the problem and has apologised for any inconvenience caused. The tipster expressed concern that only those who had already attempted emergency calls may have received the warning, calling the situation “worrying.”
