Faroese independence declaration at risk, warns Republic party leader
The leader of the Faroese Republic party has warned that the joint declaration on independence, supported by all parties except the Union Party, could collapse as coalition talks begin between the People’s Party, Union Party, and Social Democratic Party.
Sirið Stenberg, chair of the left-wing Republic party, told Faroese national broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya that the independence declaration—backed by all parties except the pro-Danish Union Party—may now be in jeopardy. Her comments come as the three centre-right and centre-left parties enter intense negotiations to form a new government following recent elections.
