Work ongoing to paint intersections in Akureyri, Iceland to improve road safety

In Akureyri, work is currently being carried out to paint the intersections of Oddeyrargata and Brekkugata in red. Construction has been ongoing at these junctions for several weeks, resulting in regular traffic closures. Authorities expect the roads to be reopened to traffic later today.

The red paint is being applied to the asphalt, and a layer of red aggregate is added on top to enhance the road’s texture. This new surface is designed to shorten braking distances for vehicles.

The red coloring at the intersections indicates that these areas are part of a zone where motorized vehicles do not have priority. The initiative aims to encourage drivers to slow down and pay closer attention to other road users.
