Finnish MP Juha Mäenpää to undergo open-heart surgery
Finns Party MP Juha Mäenpää will undergo open-heart surgery in Tampere next week and will take extended sick leave, reports Finnish public broadcaster Yle.
If the procedure proceeds as planned, Mäenpää, 54, will begin a medical leave of at least three months. The exact duration remains undecided.
A second-term representative, Mäenpää was first elected to parliament in 2019 and re-elected in 2023. He told Yle that if the surgery succeeds, he intends to run in next spring’s elections but acknowledged the risks involved in major cardiac operations.
