Pirkanmaa welfare region sends billing notices to deceased individuals
The Pirkanmaa welfare region in Finland has sent incorrect mobility support billing notices to deceased former clients, causing distress to their families, the regional authority announced on Friday.
According to a statement, the error occurred due to a system failure that prevented automatic verification of client data against official registers. As a result, letters regarding changes in mobility support billing were mailed to incorrect addresses.
Notifications were sent either through the government’s Suomi.fi messaging service or by post. The welfare region, known as Pirha, acknowledged the inconvenience caused to the relatives of the deceased and issued an apology.
Affected families have been advised to contact Pirha’s service guidance or their local welfare office for assistance. The authority did not specify how many incorrect notices were sent.
