Henrik Old announces retirement from Faroese politics after decades in parliament
Longtime Faroese politician Henrik Old has announced his departure from politics, stating it is “not a lie to step aside,” Faroese public broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya reports.
Old, a veteran left-wing advocate from Suðuroy, said he will now take time to “reclaim the years he has neglected” while serving in the Løgting (Faroese Parliament). He expressed hope that newly elected representatives will prioritise completing the Suðuroy Tunnel, a key infrastructure project for the southern island.
The announcement marks the end of a lengthy political career for Old, who has been a persistent voice in Faroese public life.
