Faroese election update shows Union Party leader Bárður á Steig Nielsen leading in personal votes

With a quarter of votes counted in the Faroe Islands’ parliamentary election, the Union Party’s Bárður á Steig Nielsen has received the most personal votes, public broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya reports.

As of 21:52 local time, 43 of 57 polling stations have been tallied, representing roughly 25 percent of the total vote. The centre-right People’s Party leads with 28.8 percent, followed by the Union Party at 22.3 percent. The Social Democrats hold 19.9 percent, while the left-wing Republic party has 16.7 percent.

In the race for personal votes, Nielsen leads with 486, ahead of People’s Party leader Beinir Johannesen with 350. Aksel V. Johannesen of the Social Democrats ranks third.
