Election workers in the Faroe Islands have described their role as both a duty and a source of pride, with one volunteer in Skálavík framing it as a personal responsibility, Kringvarp Føroya reports.
Poul Jákup Thomsen, a harbour worker and chair of the local election committee in Skálavík, told the broadcaster that he sees his involvement as a natural obligation. “I have a responsibility to help,” he said, adding that his background as a harbour worker has shaped his sense of civic engagement.
Both Thomsen and fellow committee member Poul Johan í Stovuni reported a positive atmosphere during Thursday’s voting, with voters arriving in good spirits and willing to engage in conversation. Political parties had also been active earlier in the day, offering coffee and treats to residents in the polling station’s basement.
Former politician Tórður Mikkelsen was among the visitors observed at the polling place.
