Over half of eligible voters in Hoyvík have already participated in the Faroese parliamentary election, marking the first time residents of the district can vote in the Løgting elections, reports Faroese broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya.

By 5 p.m. local time, 54.3 percent of voters had cast their ballots, with turnout rising sharply in the final hour. Election officials reported long queues at one polling station as voters arrived in large numbers before closing time.

According to Eyðfríð Lisberg Jacobsen, head of the local election committee, 3,432 people are registered to vote in Hoyvík. By 5 p.m., 1,863 had voted in person, with an additional 300 expected to have submitted advance ballots. This brings the total participation to roughly 63 percent by the end of the working day.

Tuesday’s vote was the first opportunity for Hoyvík residents to participate in Fólkatingið (constituent assembly) elections, where preliminary turnout reached 72.3 percent for advance voters and 77.68 percent for in-person voters.
