Faroese broadcaster to cut cake shaped like election debate insult
Supporters of the Faroese Social Democratic Party gathered in central Tórshavn on Thursday evening were served a cake shaped like a controversial election debate prop, public broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya reports.
The cake, decorated to resemble a phallus, was a reference to an incident during a televised election debate on Wednesday. Tróndur Vatnhamar, a candidate, presented the object to rival Sjúrður Skaale, sparking widespread discussion.
As voters awaited election results—expected after polls closed at 8 PM—party members at the Social Democrats’ headquarters received the themed dessert. “They’re doing it at Kringvarp [the broadcaster],” attendees remarked, pointing to the cake.
The original object had been wielded by Vatnhamar during a heated exchange about media influence in the Faroese parliamentary election.
