Strong voter turnout reported in Klaksvík ahead of Faroese parliamentary election
The Faroese town of Klaksvík is seeing high voter participation in today’s parliamentary election, according to Deputy Prime Minister Eydna Klakstein Thomsen, who spoke in a radio interview with Valfepur on public broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya.
By 1 p.m. local time, turnout had already surpassed the same point in the 2022 election by 5%. Thomsen described the atmosphere as engaged, with many residents having cast their ballots early. Danish journalists are also present in Klaksvík, though they are covering a separate story, she noted.
The election, held on March 26, 2026, will determine the composition of the Faroese parliament, the Løgting. Early voting trends suggest strong civic participation across the islands.
