Voter turnout in the Faroese municipality of Vestmanna has been strong on Thursday, with many residents citing the long-delayed Vestmannatunnilin (Vestmanna Tunnel) as their key concern, reports Faroese national broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya.
By mid-morning, 15 percent of eligible voters had already cast their ballots—a high early turnout. The issue dominating discussions is the tunnel project, which has faced repeated delays due to unstable rock conditions along the Vestmannavegurin route. Recent landslide risks have intensified calls for reliable transport solutions.
Bjørg á Rógvi, a member of Vestmanna’s municipal council, acknowledged the frustration. “It’s hard to say how people will vote, but I believe this issue is on everyone’s mind now. They want this tunnel,” she told KVF.
Some voters interviewed before entering polling stations said local representation was crucial, though not all had decided which party to support. The election follows years of disruption, with the main road frequently closed due to geological hazards.
