Hiddenfjord expands solar energy capacity in the Faroe Islands with new installations

Faroe Islands

A few years ago, Hiddenfjord began transporting salmon by air to make its production processes more environmentally friendly.

In recent years, the company has also focused on using its production facilities to harness solar energy.

Hiddenfjord has effectively adopted the largest solar energy system in the Faroe Islands, having installed solar panels on the rooftops of two buildings at its smolt station in Fútaklettur and at the company’s land station in the harbor of Miðvágur. After the summer break, the company plans to begin setting up a new solar power facility at the smolt station in Fútaklettur.

With this installation, Hiddenfjord’s total solar energy production capacity will exceed 1 megawatt, which is enough to power approximately 140 households.

Atli Gregersen, the company’s director, emphasized the importance of taking responsibility in the Western world to reduce CO2 emissions. He noted that it is primarily developed countries that contribute the most to emissions, and they also possess the resources to make a difference.
