Election officials in the Faroe Islands have begun sealing ballot boxes with locks to ensure no tampering occurs during voting, public broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya reports. The measure follows a recent case in which an election supervisor from Oyndarfjørður was charged with electoral fraud.

The locks are applied as soon as voting begins, with election boards across the country responsible for securing the boxes. The first ballots were cast Thursday at Høllin á Hálsi in the capital, Tórshavn.

An additional seal will be placed on each box once voting concludes, further safeguarding against interference before counting begins.
