Train disruptions in southern Finland after technical failure and accident
Train services in southern Finland are facing significant delays after a technical fault and a separate accident disrupted traffic on the main railway line, state broadcaster Yle reports.
A system failure near Mäntsälä and a personal injury incident in Hattula both halted services on Wednesday afternoon. While traffic resumed around 5 p.m., delays are expected to continue for the rest of the day.
At least four long-distance trains are running late due to the disruption on the main line. National operator VR estimates that delays will persist well into the evening.
The accident occurred near Parola in Hattula, a few kilometres north of Hämeenlinna. Meanwhile, a separate technical fault between Kerava and Lahti brought afternoon services to a standstill.
Repairs to the Mäntsälä system fault are expected to continue into the early evening. Long-distance trains are being rerouted via Riihimäki, while regional Z-trains between Kerava and Lahti will be replaced by buses, serving all intermediate stations.
