A former employee of the North Ostrobothnia welfare region is under investigation for two separate incidents involving unauthorized access to customer and patient data as well as disclosing confidential information to third parties. The welfare authority suspects that the employee violated confidentiality and non-disclosure obligations.

The individual is accused of sharing private customer information with unauthorized parties, which involved clients with whom they had an established relationship. In addition, the employee is believed to have improperly accessed data related to 13 clients from social and healthcare databases.

The welfare authority has already reached out to all clients affected by these alleged breaches of confidentiality. They have indicated plans to personally contact each individual impacted by the unauthorized handling of customer and patient information as soon as possible.

The employee is no longer in service with the welfare authority. Furthermore, a request for investigation has been submitted to the police, and the matter has been reported to the data protection authority. The police are continuing to process the case, and the welfare authority has stated that they will not provide any further information regarding the issue.
