Helsinki and HUS consider replacing troubled Apotti patient record system
The Helsinki and Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS), along with the City of Helsinki and the wellbeing services regions of Vantaa and Kerava, are evaluating whether to replace the controversial Apotti patient information system in the coming years, reports Helsingin Sanomat.
The system, launched in 2018, has faced repeated and harsh criticism throughout the early 2020s. Owners of the Apotti consortium have now jointly commissioned consulting firm BearingPoint to assess what kind of future patient and client data system would best meet their needs.
The current contract between US-based software provider Epic Systems and Apotti Oy is set to expire this year. HUS is also finalising depreciation write-offs related to the original investment by 2028.
Lauri Tanner, HUS administrative director, told Helsingin Sanomat that if a replacement is chosen, a new system could be implemented in the late 2030s.
