Finland to switch to daylight saving time this weekend
Finland will move clocks forward by one hour on Sunday, 29 March, at 3:00 AM local time, marking the start of daylight saving time, reports Finnish public broadcaster Yle. The change follows the EU-wide practice of adjusting clocks twice a year.
The country has observed daylight saving time since 1981, with the shift occurring simultaneously across all EU member states. While the European Commission has proposed abolishing the practice, the decision remains pending.
Finland supports ending the clock changes, which currently require an EU directive amendment. The European Parliament voted in 2019 to stop the time adjustments, but the proposal awaits approval from the EU Council, as not all member states have formed a position.
A Commission assessment on the impacts of abolishing seasonal time changes is expected by the end of 2024, after which further steps will be evaluated.
